Ms. Rietveld has been coaching speech and debate for four years. She holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from Irvine Valley College, and is currently working toward a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies, and Minor in Public Relations at Cal State University, Long Beach.
Ms. Rietveld specializes in American Parliamentary Debate, and also competed in British Parliamentary Debate and International Public Debate (IPDA) and won awards in all three. She has also coached Lincoln-Douglass Debate, Public Forum, Spontaneous Argumentation (SpAr) Debate and Worlds Debate. In addition, Ms. Rietveld has competed in Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu Speaking and Informative Speaking and won awards in all three. She has also coached limited preparation, platform and oral interpretation speeches including Persuasive, Speech to Entertain, Poetry, Prose and Programmed Oral Interpretation.
Considering herself a “news junkie,” Ms. Rietveld listens to NPR every morning and reads up on the news every evening. Currently, her favorite book is Salt Houses by Hala Alyan. Ms. Rietveld teaches at Cogito Debate in Irvine and Anaheim.
