Mr. Pelayo has been coaching Speech & Debate for 1 year; however, he holds extensive experience in both competing in collegiate Speech & Debate as well as participating in public speaking nonprofits like Toastmasters International, where he holds the position of Club President. Currently, he holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from Irvine Valley College, as well as a Paralegal Studies Certificate from Coastline Community College, & is awaiting transfer to a 4-year university to complete his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies.
Mr. Pelayo specializes in NPDA Parliamentary Debate & Limited Preparation Events that include Extemporaneous & Impromptu Speaking, earning awards for all of these at the State level (2018 CCCFA State Championships). Since his days competing for CSU Long Beach, Mr. Pelayo has also competed in International Public Debate (IPDA), Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking, & Speech-To-Entertain.
A devout listener of podcasts, Mr. Pelayo will often go through several episodes in his commutes, as they are his favorite source of both investigative journalism & entertainment. His favorite podcasts include the law-oriented More Perfect (by the creators of RadioLab), Snap Judgment, On The Media, & Lore.
Mr. Pelayo teaches at Cogito Debate in Irvine, Epic Academy, & Lakewood.
